How Can a Solar Fan decrease utilities and increase comfort?

How Can a Solar Fan Help save money and increase comfort?

One of the most often overlooked aspects of home insulation and the building science behind it is attic ventilation. In the heat of the summer, attic temperatures can reach 150 degrees, which has a direct impact in the temperature and comfort level inside your home. We can address this is with an active ventilation instrument, and solar fans are the most efficient and least intrusive way.

Benefits of a Solar Fan

Most homes do not have enough ventilation in their attics. We want to shoot for 6-8 cycle changes an hour, and passive ventilation systems (ridge vents, static vents, etc) are not capable of meeting that criteria. Usually, one solar fan can replace the air movement of 8-12 static vents in a roofline, with the added benefit of only running when needed.

Increased Home Comfort

A hot, baked attic in the summer is like an oven sitting on top of your home, radiating heat through the ceilings into the top floor. This can cause temperature imbalance and a stressed HVAC system attempting to keep up. By lowering the temperature of the attic 30-40 degrees, we can decrease the workload of your building envelope and A/C, keeping your home more comfortable and lowering your utility bills at the same time.

Utility Savings

As a 100% solar powered appliance, you already save on electricity by ventilating your attic off the grid. In addition, cooling your attic reduces the stress on you’re A/C and lowers usage as well.

Increased HVAC and Roof Life

Roof deck temperature is the enemy of your home comfort, as well as your HVAC system and roof. As the roof heats up from the sun during the day, your shingles and underlying roof system can become brittle and inefficient. Using a solar fan to lower the attic temperature in your home extends the life of these expensive parts of your home, saving you money in the long run.

Federal Tax Rebate

Through 2022, there is a 26% tax rebate on solar powered appliances. This is a substantial savings for a fan that pays for itself quickly! Ask us how much money you’ll get back from the IRS today!

What are the main components of the Solar Fan?

Thermostat & Humidistat

The Solar Fan is designed to run when the temperature of the attic reaches 85 degrees and above, or 75% relative humidity and above. This allows the fan to actively cool the attic during hot summer days, dropping the temperature of the attic to roughly 10 degrees above outside temperature. Without the fan, attic temperatures can climb to 50 degrees above ambient temperature outside. That can be a 30-50 degree difference in the space above your home! In addition, when warm air is trapped in your attic in winter months, this can allow moisture to build up and create mold and mildew. When the humidity reaches 75%, the fan will pull out the warm, moist air and replace it with outside air to prevent moisture issues.

One Piece Construction

The one-piece construction guarantees there will be no faults or leaks within the construction of the solar fan, and the protective animal screen ensures no unwanted critters can make their home in your attic as well. (If you already have this problem, here is your solution!)

LIFETIME WARRANTY

When recommended, we are so sure a solar fan can improve your attic insulation that we offer a lifetime warranty.
