Rodney Got the Rats Out. He Still Needed Someone to Undo the Damage.

Rodney had tried repeatedly to handle the rats himself.

Eventually, he brought in a pest professional to trap them and resolve the infestation.

But getting the rats out didn’t make his attic clean.

They had overrun the attic of his Flower Mound home, destroying blown-in fiberglass and tearing through the insulation batts. Droppings, urine, and debris were left behind in material that needed to come out.

Downstairs was a beautiful home where Rodney and his family wanted to feel comfortable having the grandkids over.

The attic was a mess he wanted dealt with thoroughly.

He had already called several contractors. He was looking for someone who would listen to what he wanted and do the whole job right.

His Daughter Sent Him a Video

Rodney found Koala Insulation of North Texas and read our reviews.

Then his daughter sent him a TikTok video showing our team doing the work.

He could see the kind of project we handled. That helped move the conversation forward and brought us out to evaluate his home.

When we met, the goal was clear: remove the contaminated insulation, clean up the attic, and address the details that would help separate it from the living space.

And there were some big details to address.

Four huge skylights had poorly insulated areas, with gaps and missing coverage around them. The pull-down attic staircase also needed an insulated, sealed cover.

Removing the rat-damaged material was the beginning of the project. Rodney wanted the attic put back together properly.

The Rats Were Gone. Now Their Mess Had to Go.

Once the pest professional had addressed the infestation, our crew began removing the old insulation.

The contaminated blown-in fiberglass came out. The damaged batts needed replacement, too.

This was a large attic, and clearing it was a substantial part of the work. We removed the ruined material, cleaned out the debris, and disinfected the space.

With the attic exposed, we air sealed the accessible gaps and openings between the attic and the house.

Rodney didn’t want to keep wondering what might be coming into his home from that mess. Removing the contaminated material and closing those pathways addressed that concern at its source.

Then we turned to the areas that needed more than fresh blown-in insulation.

Four Huge Skylights Needed More Attention

The skylights were a feature of the home. The missing insulation around their attic-side enclosures was a weakness.

Those gaps left parts of the enclosures without the insulation needed to limit heat transfer between the attic and the living space.

We reinsulated around all four, correcting the missing and uneven coverage. The purpose was year-round: help limit heat entering during summer and heat escaping during colder weather.

We also installed an insulated cover over the pull-down attic staircase. That opening needed to be sealed and insulated as part of the separation between the attic and the house.

Fresh insulation throughout the attic completed the restoration.

The details around the skylights and stairs belonged in the finished job just as much as the open attic floor did.

Three Days to Give Rodney a Fresh Start

The project took about three days.

Rodney and his family were very happy with the completed work. The contaminated insulation was gone, the attic had been cleaned and disinfected, and the gaps, skylights, and stair access had received the attention they needed.

For us, the satisfaction was helping this family feel comfortable in their home again.

Rodney wanted to enjoy the house and have the grandkids over without that ruined attic weighing on his mind. He had spent time looking for a contractor who understood what finishing the job meant to him.

We were glad to be that team.
