This Eden Prairie Attic Had Been Through a Lot

We were called out to an apartment complex in Eden Prairie where the owner had some concerns about moisture in the attic.

Once we got up there, we could see there was more going on than just needing a little extra insulation.

The building had previous structural repairs done, and people had obviously been moving around up there quite a bit.

The existing insulation showed it.

It had been walked on and trampled down in a lot of areas.

Once insulation gets packed down like that, it’s not doing the job it was originally put there to do.

And with moisture already showing up in the attic, we had some work ahead of us.

This One Needed to Come Out

Sometimes we can work with what’s already in an attic.

This wasn’t one of those times.

Koala Insulation of St. Paul did a full insulation removal so we could get the old material out of the way and actually get to the attic underneath it.

It’s dirty work.

There’s really no nicer way to put it.

Removing old insulation from a large attic takes time, and an apartment complex gives you plenty of attic to work through.

But we needed a clean start on this one.

So out it came.

We Replaced the Ventilation Chutes Too

With the old insulation gone, we could deal with the ventilation.

The existing chutes needed to be replaced, so we took care of those before putting new insulation back in.

We wanted proper airflow through the attic.

Especially when you’re already dealing with a moisture issue, we’re not going to bury old ventilation problems under a fresh layer of cellulose and pretend we didn’t see them.

Get the old insulation out.

Replace the chutes.

Then put everything back together.

That’s the order that made sense here.

Then Came the New Cellulose

Once the attic was ready, we started blowing in the new cellulose insulation.

This is always the part where the attic finally starts looking like we’re putting it back together instead of tearing it apart.

After spending all that time removing insulation, it’s nice to start adding something again.

We worked our way through the attic and replaced what had been trampled down and removed with a fresh, even layer of cellulose.

No old crushed insulation underneath it.

No trying to work around the previous mess.

We had already dealt with that.

A Fresh Start for This Apartment Attic

This was a bigger job than simply adding more insulation.

The old material had taken a beating during previous structural repairs. There were moisture concerns. The ventilation chutes needed attention.

So, Koala Insulation of St. Paul started over.

Full removal.

New ventilation chutes.

New cellulose.

That’s what this Eden Prairie apartment complex needed.

And now the owner isn’t relying on insulation that’s been walked all over and packed down from work that happened years before.
