Starting Over in the Attic of a 1979 Home

This project took us to a 1979 home that was ready for an insulation update. The homeowner wasn’t looking for a quick top-off. They wanted the old insulation removed so everything could be done from the beginning.

That meant cleaning out both attic spaces first.

The upper attic came out. Then the lower attic. Everything was loaded up and hauled away so we could actually see what we were working with instead of burying old insulation under something new.

That’s usually the point where the real work starts.

Getting Everything Ready Before the New Insulation

With both attics cleaned out, we started sealing the areas that were accessible before anything got covered back up.
Both attic hatch openings were sealed and insulated, along with the rest of the air sealing that needed to be done in the upper and lower attic spaces.

Once that was finished, we brought in the cellulose.
Little by little, both attics were filled until they reached R-60. By the time we wrapped up, the house had completely new attic insulation from one end to the other.

It was one of those jobs where you could really tell the homeowner wanted it done right instead of just getting by for a few more years.

One of the Hottest Days We Had All Year

There’s one part of this project that probably won’t show up in any before-and-after pictures.
It was hot. Really hot. The kind of day where you open an attic hatch and the heat hits you before you even climb the ladder.

Uriah and Billy never slowed down. They kept working, kept cleaning as they went, and stayed focused on getting everything finished the right way. When they were done, the house was cleaned up and all of the old insulation was gone.

The Homeowner Had the Numbers to Back It Up

Not every homeowner has blower door testing done before and after a project, but this one did.
After everything was finished, the house was tested again.

The final report showed a 29% reduction in ACH50, which is a pretty impressive improvement from where the home started.
A few days later this review came in, and it’s one we’re proud to share.

“Everything about my experience was phenomenal. I got my 1979 home updated to modern insulation standards with air sealing and new blown-in insulation. Uriah and Billy were amazing to work with, very friendly and professional. They cleaned up after themselves and achieved a 29% decrease in my ACH50 score from what it was originally, that will likely amount to a pretty nice utility cost savings over time. Also note, they came out on one of the hottest days of the year and made zero complaints about it. I highly recommend them for your insulation projects.”

Reviews like this mean a lot to our team because they come from homeowners who watched the work from start to finish. We appreciate the opportunity to help bring another older home up to today’s insulation standards.
