Fiberglass to Spray Foam Insulation Upgrade in Wilmington Island, GA
Some jobs are exactly what you think they’re going to be.
This one wasn’t.
We were over in the Long Point subdivision on Wilmington Island after getting a call from a homeowner who said their attic was unbearably hot. I’ve heard that more times than I can count, especially during a Georgia summer, so I figured we’d probably be talking about adding a little more fiberglass insulation and calling it a day.
Ready to start your insulation project?
That’s honestly what I expected driving over there.
A few minutes after climbing into the attic… I changed my mind.
Once I Got Up There, It Made More Sense
The fiberglass insulation had simply reached the point where it wasn’t doing the house many favors anymore. It wasn’t one big obvious problem. It just looked tired.
That’s probably the best way to describe it.
The attic itself felt heavy with heat. Not surprising, but you definitely noticed it. One of the guys looked over and said, “Glad this isn’t August.”
He’s probably right.
There were a couple of old storage bins pushed against one side of the attic and what looked like an artificial Christmas tree tucked into the corner. Seems like every attic has one thing nobody has touched in years.
I walked back down and told the homeowner, “This isn’t exactly what I expected to find.”
We Spent More Time Talking Than Trying to Sell
One thing I appreciated about this homeowner was they wanted to understand their options. They weren’t looking for the quickest answer.
We talked about keeping fiberglass.
We talked about replacing it.
Then we talked about spray foam insulation.
I never assume I know which direction someone is going to go. Sometimes homeowners have already done a lot of research before we ever show up. Other times they’re starting from scratch.
This one was somewhere in the middle.
They asked good questions, and honestly, it felt more like a conversation than an estimate.
By the time we finished talking everything through, they decided moving from fiberglass to spray foam was the better fit for what they wanted out of the home.
The Part I’ll Probably Remember
I’ve thought about this a couple of times since we finished the job.
Right before we packed everything up, the homeowner looked around and said,
“I can already tell it feels different.”
Now, could they have noticed an immediate difference because they were excited? Maybe.
But then this review came in later that day.
“Loved the process working with Koala and their whole team. They were extremely knowledgeable and well equipped. From start to finish of the job, they walked through all options to insulate our old, dated attic space. They communicated well throughout the whole process, completed the job quickly, and did an amazing job. My attic was unbearably hot before. The difference after the spray foam application is immediately noticeable. Highly recommend them!!”
I smiled when I read that.
Not because they complimented us—although that’s always appreciated—but because they mentioned exactly what they had hoped would change before we ever started.
The attic.
That’s why they called in the first place.
That’s Really How This One Ended
We loaded the trailer, picked up the last few pieces of material, and headed toward another appointment not far from Savannah. Pretty normal afternoon.
Actually… I think somebody mentioned stopping for sweet tea on the way. I don’t remember if we ever did.
What I do remember is this homeowner trusted us enough to let us walk them through every option instead of trying to sell them on one. We ended up installing spray foam because it made sense for their home, not because it was the most expensive choice.
That’s how we try to handle every estimate.
