Rodent Cleanup & Crawl Space Restoration in Skidaway Island, GA

This crawl space looked better than most… until we looked a little closer.

We were out in The Landings on Skidaway Island recently for what sounded like a pretty straightforward crawl space inspection. The homeowner mentioned they’d heard some noise underneath the house a while back and wanted someone to make sure everything was okay.

I’ve learned over the years that when someone says, “I think it’s probably nothing,” it usually means it’s worth taking a good look anyway.

At first glance, the crawl space actually looked nice. The vapor barrier was in good shape, cleaner than what we usually find, and I remember thinking this might end up being a pretty quick visit.

It didn’t take long before we realized there was a little more going on.

We Found the Signs Pretty Quickly

The vapor barrier itself wasn’t the problem.

Once we started moving through the crawl space, we found evidence of rodent activity in several areas. Nothing completely out of control, but definitely enough that it needed to be cleaned up correctly.

You could tell the rodents had been using the space for a while.

Not what the homeowner wanted to hear.

One of our guys pointed toward a section near the foundation where the droppings were more concentrated. I almost missed it the first time because the vapor barrier was still in such good condition. Funny how that happens sometimes. Things can look perfectly fine until you slow down and really look.

The crawl space was surprisingly cool compared to outside, which honestly felt pretty good after unloading equipment in the Georgia heat.

This Wasn’t Something We Wanted to Clean by Hand

Years ago, jobs like this were a lot slower.

For this cleanup, we brought in our commercial insulation removal machine to safely remove the rodent droppings and contaminated material instead of trying to handle everything by hand. It makes the process much cleaner and does a much better job than simply vacuuming visible debris.

Once everything had been removed, we weren’t finished.

Actually, that’s the part a lot of people never see.

The Cleanup Is Only Half the Job

After removing the contamination, we treated the entire affected area with an active enzyme sanitizer to help clean the surfaces where the rodent activity had been.

Then we finished by applying Attic Fresh, leaving the crawl space noticeably cleaner than when we arrived.

There’s a certain smell after a proper enzyme treatment. Not overpowering. Just… clean. Hard to describe unless you’ve been around it.

The homeowner came over while we were packing equipment back onto the trailer and asked if they could take a look underneath before we left.

I always like when homeowners do that.

Seeing the difference for themselves is better than me trying to explain it.
