Brand New House. Right Time To Do Spray Foam.

We spent part of this week on a new construction house over in Springdale.

Those are always a little easier than working on an older house.

Nobody has furniture yet.

Nobody is asking if we’re going to make a mess in the living room.

Half the time the front door doesn’t even have a lock on it yet.

This house was moving along pretty well.

Framers were finished.

The plumbers had already been through.

The electrical rough-in was done.

That meant it was our turn.

One thing I always tell people is this…

If you’re going to spend the money on spray foam, new construction is the best time to do it.

Everything is open.

We can get exactly where we need to go.

Nobody has to tear anything apart later.

Makes life easier for everybody.

I remember one of the guys saying he wished every job was this clean.

I laughed.

Give it another week and there’ll probably be sawdust and drywall mud everywhere.

Construction sites never stay clean very long.

The spraying itself went pretty much how you’d hope.

We worked our way through the house one section at a time.

Every now and then somebody would holler, “Need another hose over here.”

Or…

“Can you check this corner?”

Nothing exciting.

That’s usually a good thing.

The jobs that make good stories are usually the jobs you don’t want.

When we were wrapping up, I stood in the middle of the house for a minute.

It was quiet.

No compressors running.

No spray guns.

Just quiet.

It’s strange how much different a house feels after the insulation is finished.

Maybe it’s just me.

The builder came by before we left.

Looked around for about thirty seconds.

He smiled and said, “Looks good. See you on the next one.”

That’s about as much conversation as builders usually want to have when everybody’s trying to stay on schedule.

The family buying this house probably won’t ever think about the insulation once they move in.

And honestly…

That’s fine.

I’d rather they notice the house stays comfortable in July and that their heating and cooling system isn’t working overtime every day.

That’s what they’re really paying for.
