This One Was Just A Good Day At Work

Some jobs stay in your head because something went wrong.

This wasn’t one of those.

Actually…I almost forgot about this one until I was looking through pictures on my phone.

We were in Lowell working on a brand-new house that was ready for insulation.

No drywall yet.

Just open walls everywhere.

I always like seeing houses at that stage because you can tell how everything is put together before it all gets covered up.

Somebody had already dropped off windows for another house across the street.

A concrete truck rolled by while we were unloading.

Just another morning on a jobsite.

The builder had everything ready, so we pretty much got right to work.

People ask us once in a while if batt insulation is still worth putting in a new house.

Absolutely.

When it’s installed correctly, it works really well.

The trick is slowing down enough to install it correctly.

I watched one of the guys trim around an outlet box.

He stopped…

Pulled the insulation back out.

Trimmed it again.

Then put it back.

Nobody would’ve known the difference once drywall covered it.

He knew.

That’s enough.

One room kind of blended into the next after that.

Walls.

Another bedroom.

Hallway.

Laundry room.

I couldn’t even tell you what time we finished one section because we were already moving to the next.

Pretty normal.

Somebody’s phone rang.

Somebody else couldn’t remember where they left their utility knife.

Found it five minutes later sitting on a window sill.

Construction sites are funny like that.

The little stuff is usually what you remember.

Before we left, I walked back through the house one last time.

Still didn’t really look like a home yet.

No cabinets.

No paint.

No floors.

Just insulation tucked into every wall.

A few months from now somebody will be sitting in that living room watching TV and probably never think once about what’s behind the drywall.

Honestly…

That’s kind of the goal.

If everything was done right today, they shouldn’t have to think about it.

Ever.
