This RV Garage in Las Vegas Was Basically an Oven… Until We Stepped In
This one didn’t take long to figure out. You open the door and it just hits you. That trapped heat feeling that doesn’t move. Even early in the day, it was already warming up more than it should. By mid-afternoon, it was exactly what you’d expect in Las Vegas… just amplified inside the structure. The homeowner was using this prefab garage for their RV but also wanted to actually spend time in there. Right now, that wasn’t happening.
What We Walked Into
Prefab structure, metal framing, wide open interior. No real insulation to speak of, and definitely nothing sealing the space. You could see light in a few areas where panels met. Not huge gaps, just enough. The bigger issue was how fast the heat built up and how long it stayed there. Even when the sun started dropping, the space held onto that heat. It just lingered.
Why It Gets Like This
Prefab garages around Las Vegas deal with two things at the same time. Direct sun beating on the exterior, and no real barrier stopping that heat from pushing inside. Once it gets in, there’s nowhere for it to go. So, the whole structure heats up, then holds it. Kind of like a slow cooker. You can add fans, you can open doors, but without actually sealing and insulating the structure, you’re just moving hot air around.
Ready to start your insulation project?
There’s a good explanation from the ENERGY STAR guide on why sealing and insulating your home matters that lines up with what we see in spaces like this. It’s not just about insulation, it’s about stopping that heat from entering in the first place.
What We Did Next
We went with closed cell spray foam across the walls and roof of the garage. That gave us a full seal and a solid insulation layer in one step. No gaps, no airflow leaks, no spots where heat can sneak through. Closed cell also adds some rigidity to the structure, which is helpful on prefab builds like this. Once it was applied, the space was no longer reacting directly to the outside temperature. That’s really the shift. If you’re dealing with a similar setup, this is something we handle all the time through our spray foam insulation services in Las Vegas.
How It Turned Out
Completely different feel. You walk in now and it doesn’t hit you anymore. The temperature is controlled, not swinging all over the place. It actually feels usable, which was the whole point. The homeowner can store the RV without worrying about extreme heat, and more importantly, they can actually spend time in the space if they want to. That lingering heat is gone.
Pretty Common Around Las Vegas
We see this exact setup all the time. Prefab garages, workshops, detached structures… they look great and go up fast, but insulation usually isn’t part of the original build in a meaningful way. It’s not even the heat itself, it’s how long it sticks around. That’s what gets people. You walk in and it just sits there… and after a while you just stop using the space like you planned to. Most of the time, it’s not a major issue. It’s just missing the piece that actually controls the environment.
