I Think Every Attic In Las Vegas Has A Personality
Maybe that’s a weird thing to say.
But after you’ve crawled through enough of them, they all seem a little different.
This one was over in Las Vegas, and before we even opened the attic hatch the homeowner said, “I hope you’re about to tell me I’m not crazy.”
Ready to start your insulation project?
I asked why.
She said everybody in the family fought over one bedroom because it stayed cooler than the others.
I’ve actually heard that before.
More than once.
When I climbed up there, I wasn’t expecting anything dramatic.
Honestly, I rarely am.
Most of the time it’s a bunch of little things that add together over the years.
Settled insulation.
Thin spots.
Places that just don’t have enough coverage anymore.
That’s pretty much what we found here.
Nothing shocking.
Just an attic that had slowly stopped doing its job.
The funny part…
You can stand in an attic for five minutes and completely lose track of time.
Somebody hollers up asking if everything looks okay.
You answer, “Yeah.”
Five minutes later they ask again because they think you’ve been up there for half an hour.
It happens all the time.
Anyway…
Once we got everything set up, we started blowing in new insulation.
Not the most exciting thing to watch unless you’re the one doing it.
But I always like that part.
The attic slowly changes color as the insulation spreads out, and before long the whole floor starts looking even again.
On this house we finished with right around 15 inches of blown-in insulation.
One of our crew members looked across the attic and said, “That looks a whole lot better.”
Simple.
But he was right.
There’s something satisfying about seeing everything covered the way it’s supposed to be.
When we climbed back down, the homeowner didn’t ask how many bags we used.
Didn’t ask about R-values.
She asked, “So…you really think this is going to help?”
I told her I did.
Not because insulation fixes every problem.
It doesn’t.
But when an attic has settled down as much as this one had, bringing it back up to where it should be usually makes a noticeable difference.
Especially during a Las Vegas summer.
That’s really why we do these jobs.
Nobody is going to climb into their attic every weekend to admire fresh insulation.
Hopefully, they never look at it again.
They’ll notice it another way.
Maybe the upstairs feels a little more comfortable.
Maybe the AC isn’t running quite as long in the afternoon.
Maybe nobody argues over which bedroom they want anymore.
That’s good enough for me.
