We talk to a lot of homeowners who say the thing to us: “The air conditioner is running all day but the house still does not feel cool.” Before you spend money on an air conditioner it is worth looking at something that people often forget about. Air leaks in your home.

Think about it like this. Every time your air conditioner cools your home the cool air needs to stay inside your home.. If there are gaps and openings around your house some of that cool air is getting out while hot air from outside is getting in.

When we inspect homes we often find air leaks in places that homeowners would never think to check, like around the doors that lead to your light fixtures and pipes. There are a lot of openings that can let air move in and out of your home.

The thing is, most people do not realize that these air leaks exist because they can not see them. What they do notice is that some rooms in their home never seem comfortable their energy bills are higher and their air conditioner seems like it is always working hard.

That is why we always recommend looking at your home not just the air conditioner. Sometimes the problem is not that your air conditioner is not making cool air. The problem is that the cool air is getting out of your home.
