Moisture Damage

Slow, minor leaks, severe weather, excessive or extreme temperatures, and intense humidity will cause moisture to build up. Sealing up air leaks will ensure that the new insulation will not become damp, leading to mold and mildew. Additionally, moisture can cause cellulose to lose its pest and fire-resistant qualities.

Pest Contamination

Rodents, birds, and insects that find their way into your attic, crawlspace, or walls may find your insulation to be quite cozy and thus decide to move in. When removing the old insulation, any pest feces and urine will be removed, and your attic will be sanitized completely before any new insulation get installed.

Air Sealing

Air leakage can lead to the transfer of heat and moisture, which can cause numerous issues, even with the highest insulation level. Reducing air flow is essential to improve the overall energy performance of your home. Koala technicians will seal around your access hatch, recessed lights, duct work and any other spaces that may allow air flow, creating a tight air barrier.

CELLULOSE

Cellulose consists of fibers made from recycled newspaper, cardboard, or wood and is made with or without binders. Cellulose is a very common type of blown-in insulation as it is made from recycled materials and is chemically treated to resist pests, mold, and fire. Boric acid is the primary chemical used to treat Cellulose insulation and is found naturally in seawater, fruits, and plants.

FIBERGLASS

Fiberglass is made from plastic, glass, and other raw materials that are melted and spun into fibers that resemble the texture of wool. Fiberglass insulation has moisture and fire-resistant properties. Because fiberglass is made from sand and glass, it is naturally non-combustible. Fiberglass has significant recycled content with some loose-fill products containing up to 80% recycled glass.

R-Value Matters

When choosing attic insulation, R-value matters. Insulation is labeled by R-value. R stands for resistance to heat flow, the greater the R-value, the higher the insulating power. Koala installers have the knowledge and experience to recommend and install the right density and thickness (R-value).

Fusion-Edit-600 removal

Depending on where you live, different climate zones require different R-values. If you live in a colder climate zone, like the northeast, you’ll need a higher R-value of insulation, then if you live in a milder climate zone. Typical recommendations for exterior walls are R-13 to R-23, while R-30, R-38 and R-49 are common for ceilings and attic spaces. Proper batt insulation must be installed higher and over your ceiling joists or wall studs, this allow for optimal insulating.

Let me start this review by saying I have found only fractions of 1% of contractors that actually care about what they do. Koala is one of the few gems. Eduardo and Tho we're outstanding. Kind, respectful, honest, and actually watched what they were doing. I had hired them to install closed cell spray foam in my basement and could not be happier. The installation was quick and painless. Consistent attention to detail throughout and no shortcuts. Price was also very reasonable for the work involved. I would highly recommend using their services for any insulation project one may have!

Money well spent for a job so well done!

Greg Cooper from Koala contacted me immediately when I found him on Anji. He was very patient with me and my schedule as I figured out my time line. When I was finally prepared to show the project, Greg was punctual to the minute when he arrived to give me pricing. He was able to measure square footage, give me 3 options to work with in terms of building codes from when permit was pulled, IBC and current codes. (I have been doing my own renovations for over 10 years, so codes have changed since I started.)

Greg was straight forward and never once put pressure on me or tried to “up sale” the higher bid for most efficiency which in the end was my preference. He was also decent enough to tell me that if I decided to work with someone else, he appreciated that I contacted him regardless. He allowed me time to get my ducks in a row. His communication was respectful and always swift. I called a couple of other contractors who also seemed good, but I liked Greg, Koala and their pricing the best.

My home is over 100 years old. The newer second story addition is now not only snug as a bug, but much quieter. (I live on a loud busy street.)
I can finally feel a difference in efficiency when I go upstairs. I believe I can easily keep it comfortable temperature wise with the minimal existing duct work in place. (I won’t know until we get a hard cold snap, bur so far it’s an amazing improvement.)

Finally, the 2 man crew were of same high caliber. Punctual, Respectful, Hard Working, Efficient and On Schedule. I have only good things to say and feel confident in my recommendation for Koala Insulation of Denver. Like it should be… Money well spent for a job so well done!
