Addressing the Cold Room in Your Home

We work hard to make our homes as comfortable and cozy as possible, but sometimes that can prove to be difficult as the temperature swings outside and as our homes (and insulation) age.

Did you know that the majority of homes are underinsulated? If you have a room in your home that is consistently too cold, new insulation might be your answer!

A Cold Bedroom or Living Space

Do you have a room in your home that you tend to avoid when the weather cools down? Chances are that it is probably a room that has an exterior wall leading outside. Oftentimes, an exterior wall that isn’t insulated well or has a draft somewhere becomes vulnerable to rapid heat loss.

If your home has already been constructed, an easy fix for this is to add some blown-in insulation into your wall! A small hole can be drilled in between each stud, and our blown-in material is added to fill up the empty space. Once it is full, we patch up the hole and you should start to experience the benefits right away.

A Cold Room Over the Garage

If you have finished your attic space or added a room above your garage, cheers to you! That is a great way to take advantage of all of the square footage available in your home.

However, it is crucial that this space is insulated correctly because of where it is situated in your home. Our garages are vulnerable to drastic temperature swings when the garage door opens and closes. If your garage isn’t insulated and you don’t have the right insulation in your room, this space will constantly warm up and cool down with the garage temperature.

The best way to fix this is to add some insulation to your garage ceiling or attic room floors. It may already have a thin layer installed, but if this space is used more frequently than it used to be, it could benefit from more. Thicker batt materials can help bulk up this space and warm up your room.

What to Do About it

Sometimes, warming up a room only takes a few simple changes. It could be something as easy as moving furniture away from a blocked register or a vent that is closed when it should be wide open! You are also encouraged to swap out your furnace filter every season so your HVAC system can work more efficiently.
