Benefits of Re Insulating

Why Re Insulate?

There are a lot of good reasons to re insulate your home. The main being to improve comfort and make your home more energy efficient saving you money. There are many other reasons that you may not even think about. Those include giving your A/C and furnace a break which can extend the life of those units, extending the life of you roof and shingles, and reduce any unwanted outside noise.

If you are someone who has to constantly mess with the thermostat, or has uneven room temperatures insulation might be the answer to why this is happening. Having low insulation in your attic can cause your conditioned air temperature fluctuate between rooms because air is leaking in our out of your attic differently in each room. In the summer hot air is going to push down from your attic in areas with low insulation causing them to be warmer than others. In the winter the cold air is pushing your warm air up through the same areas. Properly insulated attics can help regulate these temperatures by keeping the air you paid to heat or cool in your home, saving you money! Upgrading your attic insulation is what is going to make your home more efficient because you won’t have to heat and cool the air as often because it’s staying inside.

Keeping that air inside is going to reduce the workload on your A/C and furnace. That reduced workload means those units not running so often in turn extending the life of those units and reduce the maintenance that you have to do on them as well. Properly insulated and ventilated attics also will help extend the life of your roof and shingles. When an attic is properly ventilated it allows the air in the attic to breathe and create air exchanges with the outside air. In the summertime this is huge because it keeps the attic air temperature lower. With a lower air temperature in your attic it will help the shingles not bake from the bottom causing them to peel up. In the winter a properly ventilated attic helps keep the attic air temperature down to help prevent ice dams building up. Ice dams are caused when the attic air temperature is warm enough, caused by your warm house air leaking up into the attic, to melt the snow from the bottom side until it reaches the soffit where the cold air is causing it to re freeze. The goal is to have your attic be cold enough, so the snow doesn’t melt. Preventing these ice dams is going to save more wear and tear on your gutters and shingles.

Having the proper depth of insulation in your attic will also help reduce outside noise. If you live in a high traffic area or just a busy neighborhood you may experience unwanted sound coming into your house. Insulation acts as a another barrier between your home and the outdoors. That extra barrier will dampen the amount of sound able to penetrate into your home creating a more quiet home.

With all these reasons to re insulate your home I saved the best for last. Insulation is an energy efficient home improvement, which means under the inflation reduction act you are eligible for 30% of your total bill up to $1,200 in tax credits. Not only will you save money on your utility bills each month you can get some money back in your tax return the following year.

Re insulating your home is an energy efficient upgrade for you home that will save you money year over year. Insulation isn’t just a one-time project. It is a long-term investment in your biggest investment, your home.
