Closed Cell Spray Foam Above a Home Addition in Oregon, WI

Not every insulation job we do is a huge attic or an entire house. Sometimes it’s one smaller area that needs to be handled correctly, especially when an addition has been built onto a home.

This project took us to Oregon, Wisconsin, where we insulated the space above a small addition with 4.5 inches of closed cell spray foam.

It wasn’t a huge space, but that doesn’t make the insulation any less important.

Insulating a Small Home Addition in Oregon

Additions can sometimes be tricky when it comes to keeping temperatures consistent with the rest of the house. You’ve got new construction tied into an existing home, and depending on how everything was built, that new room can end up feeling different.

Too hot in the summer. Colder in the winter. Or the HVAC system just seems to work harder to keep up.

For this one, closed cell foam made sense.

Our crew sprayed 4.5 inches of closed cell foam above the addition, creating a solid insulation layer across the area.

Why Closed Cell Spray Foam Worked Here

Closed cell is a dense foam, so you can get a lot of insulating value without needing a huge amount of space. That comes in handy on projects like this where you may not have the same amount of room you would in a traditional open attic.

It also expands into the smaller gaps and spaces as it’s applied. Once everything cures, you have a pretty solid barrier up there instead of insulation sitting loosely between the framing.

And in Wisconsin, that matters.

We get plenty of temperature swings around Oregon and the Madison area. Winter is obviously the big one, but summer heat coming down through the roof can make an addition uncomfortable too.

If you’re putting money into adding usable square footage to your home, you don’t want that new room to be the one everyone avoids because it never feels quite right.

This was a pretty straightforward job for our crew. Get into the area above the addition, spray the foam to the proper depth and make sure we had good, consistent coverage throughout the space.
