Las Vegas Blown-In Insulation Helped Cool Down This House
I remember this one because it wasn’t even that late yet and we were already sweating before we got the hoses off the truck.
That’s Vegas.
Homeowner met us outside and before I could even introduce myself he goes, “I don’t know what else to do. The AC just runs and runs.”
I kinda laughed and said, “Well…let’s go see.”
Honestly, from downstairs the house didn’t seem bad. Then we walked upstairs.
Whole different story.
You could just feel it. Not like walking into an oven or anything dramatic. Just…warm. The kind of warm where you know the air conditioner is trying but it’s losing the fight. I remember looking at one of the guys and he just shrugged. We both knew where we were headed.
Ready to start your insulation project?
The attic.
I wasn’t expecting it to be that thin.
When I popped my head up there I actually stopped for a second.
I figured there’d be more insulation than there was.
There were spots that looked alright from the access hatch, but once you crawled farther back it got pretty thin. Some areas had settled down over the years and a couple spots almost looked forgotten.
One of the crew yelled, “Bring another hose.”
That pretty much told the story.
It was hot enough up there my safety glasses kept sliding off my face. Kind of annoying.
There was one spot I almost walked past
Funny thing…
I almost climbed back down before I noticed one little section tucked behind the ductwork.
Didn’t look like much at first.
Then I shined my light over there again and thought, “Nope…can’t leave that.”
Nobody would’ve known except us.
So, we filled it while we were there.
Little stuff like that bugs me if we leave it behind.
The homeowner said exactly what I was hoping he’d say
By the time we packed everything up the homeowner wandered back upstairs.
Didn’t say anything for probably thirty seconds.
Then he smiled and said, “It already feels different.”
Maybe it was in his head.
Maybe not.
Either way, you could tell he wasn’t frustrated anymore.
That’s what I remember most about that job.
Not the insulation.
Not the truck.
Not even how hot that attic was.
Just somebody finally feeling like they weren’t going to spend another summer wondering why half the house never cooled off.
Anyway…we cleaned up, headed to the next one, and probably drank half a gallon of water before lunch.
