After 25 Years, This McMinnville Attic Insulation Had Settled Quite a Bit

Twenty-five years is a long time for insulation to sit in an attic.

The homeowner at this McMinnville, TN house took a look at theirs and could see that it had settled quite a bit over the years.

It wasn’t up to R-38 anymore.

They knew it was time to add insulation, so they did what most homeowners would do. They called several insulation companies and got estimates.

This Attic Didn’t Need Everything Torn Out

Not every attic we look at needs a complete removal.

Sometimes the existing insulation is still fine. There just isn’t enough of it anymore.

That was the situation here.

We used blown-in cellulose to top off the existing insulation and bring the attic up to R-38.

The crew added the cellulose, brought the insulation level back up and cleaned everything up before leaving.

Then somebody else came behind us to check our work.

The Electric Company Asked to Inspect It

After the project was finished, McMinnville Electric System called the homeowner and offered a complimentary inspection.

The homeowner said yes.

Why wouldn’t you?

The inspector went into the attic, looked over what we’d done and came back with a pretty simple assessment:

“They did you a really good job.”

We’ll take that.

It’s always nice when a customer is happy with the work. It’s also nice when someone who wasn’t involved in the project comes behind us and says the same thing.

Sometimes Insulation Just Needs a Top-Off

This house is a good example of why it’s worth checking your attic every once in a while.

The insulation hadn’t disappeared. It had simply settled over roughly 25 years and wasn’t providing the R-value it once did.

The homeowner noticed it, got a few estimates and took care of it.

Now the attic is back up to R-38 with blown-in cellulose, the work passed an independent inspection, and the homeowner was able to take advantage of a $500 rebate.

They finished their review by saying they were happy with the job and had “no reservations recommending” us.

That’s about as good an ending to a job as we can ask for.
