Spray Foam Rim Joists in Ingleside, IL Before the Basement Got Closed Up

Some jobs are all about timing.

This one in Ingleside, 60041, happened because the homeowner was already tearing into the basement. Part of it was finished, part of it wasn’t, and before everything disappeared behind drywall again, they wanted us to get the spray foam done.

Honestly, I like these jobs. You only get one shot before everything gets covered back up.

We slowed ourselves down on purpose.

When we walked downstairs, one of the first things I noticed was how much had already been finished. Nice walls. Fresh paint in a few spots. Somebody had obviously been putting some weekends into this place.

I remember thinking, Alright…don’t be the crew that makes a mess.

So, before we even mixed foam, we were dragging out plastic, taping it up, covering floors…covering walls…covering things that probably didn’t even need covering.

One of the guys joked that we’d brought enough plastic to wrap the whole house.

Maybe we did.

There was one spot I kept looking at.

The rim joists were wide open, and so were the ceiling bays. That’s exactly what the homeowner wanted us there for.

Nothing complicated about the work itself.

The trick was making sure nothing drifted where it wasn’t supposed to.

Every few minutes I’d look back at the finished wall behind us just to make sure everything was still clean. Probably more than I needed to.

I’ve learned that’s usually when you catch little problems before they become big ones.

Turns out…there weren’t any.

It’s funny what people remember.

When we were rolling up the tarps, the homeowner said, “I was nervous about the overspray more than anything.”

I kind of laughed because we’d been thinking the exact same thing all morning.

By the time we loaded the trailer, the basement looked almost exactly like it had when we arrived. Just with the exposed rim joists and ceiling bays insulated and ready for the next step of the remodel.

There was still sawdust on the floor. Somebody had left a tape measure sitting on a window ledge. I don’t know why I remember that, but I do.

Those are usually the jobs that stick with me. Nothing dramatic happened. Nobody had to fix a mistake. Everybody just did their part, and the project kept moving.
