Are There Pests in Your Attic?

Homeowners from Keller to Arlington often call us after they’ve had a pest control company out to remove critters from their attic. Maybe they were seeing a lot of rodent droppings or heard footsteps in the night and found an opossum or raccoon living up there. Once the pests have been removed, the next step is to inspect your insulation for damage. 

Many critters like to chew or nest in old insulation. If you start seeing bits of blown-in insulation in your vents, that’s a sure sign that pests have been making themselves at home in your insulation.

Occasionally homeowners are not aware they have a pest problem in the attic until their pest control company offers to provide them with a free attic inspection and suddenly wants to remove and install all new insulation for a very high price. Be wary of any contractors that show you pictures of alleged pest damage but do not let you keep the pictures. We have sometimes had homeowners call us for a second insulation quote following their pest company’s inspection. Upon performing our own insulation inspection we found no evidence of pest damage. It’s always a good idea to get a second or third quote!
