This Northbrook Crawl Space Had Seen Better Days
We were out in Northbrook for this one. It wasn’t a huge project. Actually, the customer mentioned that in the review they left us afterward. They appreciated that we were willing to take on a smaller job.
Small job or not, the crawl space needed some work. The insulation underneath the house was moldy and damaged, and moisture had obviously been an issue down there. Not something you want to leave alone.
First we had to get underneath there. Crawl spaces are crawl spaces. Some aren’t too bad. Others you get about five feet in and start wondering why they couldn’t have built the house another foot off the ground.

This one needed a vapor barrier, and we were also going to encapsulate it with closed cell spray foam. The old insulation wasn’t worth trying to save. Once insulation gets wet and moldy, putting something over it isn’t fixing much. So, we got to work.
There really isn’t a glamorous way to describe crawling underneath a house and working your way around pipes and everything else somebody decided needed to be down there. You just do it.
The vapor barrier changed things pretty quickly Once we started getting the vapor barrier down, the crawl space already looked better. That’s always kind of nice. You can spend the first part of a job removing bad material and it looks like you’re making things worse instead of better. Then the new stuff starts going in.
Different story. We installed the vapor barrier to help keep ground moisture from becoming the same problem all over again. After that we used closed cell spray foam to insulate and seal the crawl space. We weren’t interested in coming back a couple years from now and seeing the same mess.
Do it once.
Do it right.
Chris and the crew got a nice review out of this one too. I don’t usually make a big deal about reviews, but this customer left one that pretty much summed up the job better than I could. They said Chris and the crew were great to work with and that they appreciated us taking on their small project. Then they said we “went the extra mile to do it right.” That’s the part I liked.
They also mentioned the pricing was very good and said they’d highly recommend us. Can’t ask for much more than that. Anyway, another crawl space taken care of.
Not every job needs to be some giant attic or whole-house project. This homeowner had a problem underneath the house.
We found moldy, damaged insulation and moisture issues. We put in the vapor barrier, encapsulated the crawl space and used closed cell spray foam to get the area insulated. That’s the job. And now they shouldn’t be dealing with the same moisture situation they had before.
