R-38 Blown-In Fiberglass Attic Insulation Upgrade in Fort Myers, FL

We had a job in Fort Myers where the homeowner was having trouble with their AC running all the time.

And if you live around here, you know how frustrating that gets. Especially when you’re paying to cool the house and the AC hardly ever gets a break.

The homeowner also had very little insulation in the attic.

That was something we could help with.

Our crew at Koala Insulation of Southwest Florida went out to take care of the insulation side of things.

The Attic Was Pretty Low on Insulation

There wasn’t much insulation up there.

And with the kind of heat we get in Fort Myers, that’s not doing the house any favors.

Think about how hot your attic gets on a summer afternoon. All that heat is sitting right above the rooms you’re trying to keep cool.

Insulation helps slow that heat from making its way into the house.

When you barely have any, the AC can end up running longer trying to keep up.

We see this quite a bit around Southwest Florida.

Homeowners will think they have an AC problem when sometimes they also have an insulation problem.

That was worth addressing at this house.

We Added Blown-In Fiberglass to R-38

The attic didn’t need a full removal.

It needed more insulation.

So, we topped off the existing material with blown-in fiberglass insulation, bringing the attic up to approximately R-38.

Blown-in fiberglass is a good option when we’re adding insulation to an attic that already has some material in place.

We can get it around the framing and into the areas that need more coverage.

And that’s what we did here.

The homeowner started with very little insulation. By the time we finished, the attic had the additional coverage it was missing.

The AC Can Only Do So Much

Here’s something we tell homeowners.

You can have a good AC system, but if your attic is poorly insulated, you’re making that system work harder than it needs to.

Especially here.

Fort Myers gets hot, and those long cooling seasons aren’t easy on equipment.

Now, insulation isn’t going to fix an AC that has a mechanical problem.

But if heat is coming through an under-insulated attic, adding insulation can help reduce some of that load.

That’s why we wanted to get this attic up to R-38.

A Nice Review From the Homeowner

After the installation, the homeowner left us a review that we appreciated.

“Koala personnel were professional and fast from the initial proposal request through the installation.”

That’s always nice to hear.

We know homeowners have other things going on besides getting insulation installed.

They want somebody to show up, do the work and not make the whole thing more complicated than it needs to be.

We try to keep it that way.

Sometimes You Just Need a Top-Off

Not every attic needs to be completely emptied out.

Sometimes the existing insulation is just too low, and adding more is the right way to go.

That’s what this Fort Myers job needed.

We added blown-in fiberglass to bring the attic up to approximately R-38.

Now there’s more insulation between the hot attic and the living space below.

And that’s the part of this project we were there to fix.

If your AC seems like it’s running all day and you’re not sure how much insulation you have, give us a call.
