Why is Fall the Best Time to Insulate?

Fall is the best time to evaluate and update the insulation of your home for several reasons!

Fall in Cypress or Katy is just perfect timing all around. The onset of fall brings a pleasant change in the temperatures, making it enjoyable to stay indoors or go outdoors, view the annual local Pumpkin Patches, Texas Renaissance Festival, and much more.

While you enjoy the crisp, cool weather, fall is the best season to prepare your home for the coming colder months or for an annual check and insulation update that will serve your home (and wallet!) well into next year’s summer.

Read this article to know why fall is the perfect time to insulate your house!

Comfortable weather for all-around house check-up

The hottest months are gone. By October, the temperature is cool, so you can finally start doing upkeep in and around your house. You don’t have to worry about sweating while checking your attic and basement for maintenance. And there are no, well, fewer mosquitoes to pester you!

Take a visual inspection around your house and note areas with unnecessary amounts of humidity, while looking for any mold growth, peeling paint, and wood rot.  These are all signs that your house may be poorly-insulated or ventilated.

You can easily see if you need repairs and sealing

Rains brought about by the season change can help you determine if there are leaks in your house. Check for leaks in your ceiling and walls. These water leaks can be an indication that your roof needs some repair. And most probably, your insulation could either be wearing thin, misaligned, or wet.

Wet insulation can cause moisture problems and be a breeding ground for bacteria. It also reduces the R-value or efficiency of the insulation.

For instance,  wet cellulose loses a portion of its R-value and chemical treatment, rendering it ineffective even if you dry it. If your insulation is fiberglass, it can recover its R-value once fully dried and uncompressed. On the other hand, rock wool doesn’t lose its R-value when wet but it is important to dry it immediately to prevent trapped moisture or even mold.

Insulation in fall preps your home to stay warm and safe during the cold winter

In winter, you’re probably busy preparing for family, hanging decorations, and running errands for the holiday season. But you also want to make sure your home is warm and comfortable. Otherwise, you’d be finding yourself and Grandma shivering in cold, drafty rooms despite having the heater on!

Act in advance and have your insulation evaluated and redone or topped off as needed. A poorly-insulated house is susceptible to frozen pipes that can lead to expensive repairs.

Insulation is like a warm blanket, it keeps you cozy. And it limits festive noises outdoors, too. If you want superior soundproofing, choose from blown-in or open-cell spray foam insulation. Both do a good job of reducing noise and cocooning your home nice and tight!

You save money!

The sooner you insulate your home, the more savings you get. Insulation is energy efficient and prevents heat loss from your home.

It puts less strain on your heater thus lowering your energy bills. And the instant you turn on your thermostat, you’ll feel warm!

Fall gives you plenty of time to prepare your house for the winter. Having your walls, attic, and crawl spaces inspected early on can prevent you from having to deal with possible problems later. Imagine the hassle calling on insulation services in the dead of winter. More often than not, you might have to wait because of the busy season.
