Is Insulation Eco-Friendly?

Yes, insulation is eco-friendly because it helps reduce energy consumption in buildings and homes. It also helps to reduce noise pollution and can be made from recycled materials.  Eco-friendly insulation is becoming increasingly popular as people look for ways to reduce their environmental impact and save on energy costs.  There are several types of eco-friendly insulation available, including cellulose, wool, and even recycled denim.  These materials are often made from recycled or renewable resources, and they provide excellent insulation properties.  Additionally, many eco-friendly insulation products are also extremely durable and long-lasting, so you won’t have to worry about replacing them anytime soon.

Cellulose

Environmental benefits with cellulose insulation do not start at the install, it actually begins in production. Cellulose is comprised of 80-85 percent recycled paper product  and news printing, leading to less consumption of trees. Cellulose is popular for use in attic floors and behind drywall.

Fiberglass

Fiberglass is comprised of wasted glass, as well as plastic, that has been ground down to a powder. Once this powder is heated with fiber binding agents at extreme temperatures the glass and fibers expand. Fiberglass presents itself with a longer life as it is more age and settle resistant compared to cellulose. Fiberglass is available in loose-fill applications as well as batt insulation.

Spray Foam

Spray foam is one of the best performing types of insulation.  Due to its outstanding R-value per inch of material, less material is used.  There are 2 forms of spray foam, Open and Closed, each has their benefits. Open cell spray foam is lighter in texture, less expensive and easier to apply than Closed Cell. Closed cell spray foam is much denser and can be used as a vapor barrier, it can even reinforce the structure of your home. Because of its’ density, you do not need as much Closed Cell to get the same R-value.

Aside from environmental and cost benefits, there are several other benefits to using -eco-friendly insulation.  Some of these benefits include improved indoor air quality, and reducing noise pollution by absorbing sound, making homes and buildings quieter and more comfortable.
