Sea Girt Home Energy Upgrade
The way this house felt
This Sea Girt home had that kind of feel you notice pretty fast. Not broken, not falling apart, just off. A little drafty in spots, warmer in others, and never really consistent from room to room.
The homeowner was dealing with higher utility bills too, which usually goes right along with that kind of comfort issue. The HVAC system was running longer than it should have been, and the house was still not staying even. That part was obvious.

Where it was leaking
It usually is not one thing. It is a bunch of little things.
There were air leaks around the home, weak spots in the insulation, and areas where the building envelope just was not doing its job well enough. Attic, basement, crawl space, little gaps around framing and penetrations. All the usual suspects. Nothing fancy. Just the kind of stuff that quietly adds up until the house starts feeling harder to live in.
What we did
Koala Insulation of Central Jersey took a whole-home approach here. That usually makes more sense than chasing one symptom and hoping it fixes the rest.
We looked at the insulation levels, the air leakage points, and the places where the home was losing energy the most. Then we handled the weak spots. Air sealing in the attic, basement, crawl space, and other leakage areas. Insulation upgrades where needed. Closed-cell spray foam in the spots that needed better air sealing and moisture control. A lot of it was simple, but it needed to be done together.
What that changed
The main thing is the house should stop fighting itself so much.
Less draft. Less temperature swing. Less of that one room freezing while another one feels too warm. That kind of balance is what people notice first, even if they do not always say it that way. The HVAC system should also have an easier time now, which matters more than people think.
The homeowner also got a 50% rebate on the cost of the job and 0% financing for 7 years through the NJ Whole Home Energy Efficiency Rebate & Incentives program, which made the project a lot easier to say yes to. That was a big part of the decision, honestly.
One thing we see a lot
Older homes will usually tell you what is wrong if you spend enough time in them. Not right away, but eventually.
A bedroom that never feels right. A hallway with a weird chill. A basement that stays stubbornly uncomfortable. This house had that kind of story, just spread out a little more.
Wrapped up
The goal here was not to chase one problem and call it done. It was to make the home work better as a whole. That usually gets a better result, and in this case it should mean a more comfortable, more efficient house going forward. Call us or visit our website for a FREE evaluation!
