$4,400 Off This Red Bank Project Through NJNG
We recently finished a pretty big project for a homeowner in Red Bank, NJ, and this one is a great example of why it’s worth looking into the programs available before you start doing energy upgrades.
This customer participated in the NJNG Whole Home Energy Solutions program.
They received a $4,400 rebate from NJNG, which came right off the total cost of the project.
Ready to start your insulation project?
Not a check they had to wait around for later.
It came off the project cost.
They were also able to take advantage of 0% financing for seven years through NJNG.
That’s a pretty good way to get a lot of work done at once.
And we definitely had a lot to do on this house.
We Started by Emptying the Attic
First thing Koala Insulation of Central Jersey did was a full insulation removal.
Everything came out.
Once the old insulation was gone, we deodorized and disinfected the attic and could actually get to all the areas underneath it.
Then came the air sealing.
There were 23 recessed lights that needed covers and sealing. We also air sealed the wall between the garage and the living space.
That’s the stuff you can’t really deal with correctly when it’s buried under old insulation.
Get it out of the way first and you can actually see what you’re doing.
There Was a LOT of Ventilation Work
And I do mean a lot.
We installed 160 soffit vent baffles.
Yes. 160.
We also installed 23 four-inch soffit vents to help with ventilation.
The bath fans needed attention too. We installed R-8 insulation for the bath fans, added roof caps and vented those fans to the exterior.
Then there was flashing around the chimney, flues and other heat sources.
The attic hatch was weatherstripped and insulated.
And we weren’t finished yet.
Spray Foam, Plumbing Lines and a Chimney Liner
There were knee walls in the attic that we insulated with closed-cell spray foam.
We also used closed-cell spray foam at the rim joists.
The hot and cold lines for the water heater were insulated, and the home got a new chimney liner as part of the project.
This is why I wouldn’t really describe this one as an “attic insulation job.”
There was insulation involved, obviously.
But there was a whole lot more happening than that.
We were looking at different places throughout the home where energy was being lost or where ventilation and sealing needed to be corrected.
Then we worked our way through the list.
The Homeowner Noticed a Difference Right Away
The best part came afterward.
The customer told us:
“We had an immediate improvement to our home temperature and energy usage. Jerry was great in his recommendations on what we needed and Gene in navigating us through the rebate process.”
That’s exactly what we want to hear.
And Gene helping them through the rebate side of things mattered on this project too.
A $4,400 rebate isn’t pocket change.
Add the seven years of 0% financing and this homeowner was able to get a pretty substantial amount of energy-efficiency work completed without taking on the entire project cost upfront.
If you’re in Red Bank or Central Jersey, don’t assume you have to figure all of this out yourself.
We’ll look at what’s actually going on with the house and help you understand what work makes sense.
